Kai Strathmann is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on choreography, electronic composition, and audiovisual art. After receiving solid training in urban dance, he worked with international music artists and major brands. He then studied contemporary dance (B.A., 2011) and choreography (M.A., 2015) at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. At the same time, he was a guest dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch for five years. In parallel, he developed his own dance and music pieces, and in 2025 he completed his second master's degree (M.Mus.) in Integrative Composition at ICEM Folkwang University of the Arts.
Since 2019, he has been working as a choreographer, composer, and artistic assistant at YIBU, regularly creating interdisciplinary works at the intersection of dance, sound, video, and space. His choreographic and compositional works have been presented at Tanzmesse NRW, MOVE! Festival, First and Further Steps, PACT Zollverein and at Theater Lüneburg.
In addition to numerous international teaching assignments, including Beijing Dance Academy, Cloud Move China, The HipDrop Sweden, SDK Brno, and Asters Studio Greece, he regularly leads intensive workshops in Germany. In his practice, Strathmann combines deep knowledge of movement with a strong musical understanding, characterized by choreographic thinking, technical precision, and atmospheric sensibility.
